BJP MLA on Manipur Violence: Manipur has been burning in the fire of violence for the last several months. Recently, anger is also being seen in the country after the video of atrocities on women went viral. In the latest development, BJP MLA from Manipur Paolinlal Haokip has now questioned the Prime Minister on the incident."Narendra Modi" href =" data-type="interlinkingkeywords">Narendra Modi has criticized the statement.
He said forget about those 79 days, even a week is too long (to react) to such a huge violence. Paolinlal Hokip himself comes from the Kuki-Zomi community. He believes that PM Modi’s priorities are completely wrong. Apart from this, he also claims that he had tried to reach the PM before the Prime Minister’s visit to America but could not succeed.
What did Haokip say?
In an interview given to Newslaundry, Paolinlal Haokip said, “International relations cannot be ignored, but attention should be paid to solving the matter where people are being killed. It is humanity that is lacking.”
He further said, “I sought an appointment with the Prime Minister as a representative of the public but did not get any response. I am still waiting for an opportunity to convey the seriousness of the situation.” Haokip is among 10 Kuki legislators who, in a letter, demanded a ‘separate administration’, accusing the N Biren Singh-led state government of ‘serious failure to protect’ the tribal group.
Haokip accuses Manipur government
He alleged that on May 3, 2023, the present government of Manipur is tacitly supporting the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi hill tribals. Violence initiated by the majority Meitei people has already divided the state.
The legislators listed four incidents of crime against women in the state and Haokip argued whether the chief minister, prime minister and Union home minister would need audio-visuals of those incidents to draw attention to atrocities in the state? He asked, "Shouldn’t the state government take action on such inhuman cruelties?"
